Stackpole Estate – Pembrokeshire

Here are a few shots taken at Stackpole which is a vast National Trust estate located in Pembrokeshire, Wales.  The estate consists of approximately 5 square miles of farmland, lakes, woodland and coastline and is well worth a visit .

Common Kingfisher

Here are further shots of a common kingfisher hunting for fish, taken from a hide in Worcestershire.   As you can see she did not return to the perch with her catch but chose instead to dine in peace at another location.

Richmond Park – Annual Deer Rut

It would appear that I turned up a little late or the stags were having an off day as there was very little rutting going on, although there was still much roaring.  The following pictures were amongst my favourites from the day particularly the three hinds laying low in the long grass.  They look so relaxed and at peace.  In fact I would probably go as far to say that the shot is one of the best I have ever taken.   It just appeals to me, what do you think?

Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red

Last Saturday I took the opportunity to pay tribute to the poor souls who fought and paid the ultimate sacrifice during the First World War.  Being the penultimate weekend of this moving Tower of London exhibition, it was reportedly one of the busiest yet, with tens of thousands of visitors.  A visit during the afternoon was clearly out owing to the throngs of people, so a quick trip in the evening seemed like a good idea as the sea of poppies appeared to have much more impact under artificial light.  However, I did return the following morning before the crowds returned and managed to get a better overall view.

Grey Heron

I was reviewing some of my previous shots and came across this one of a grey heron.  I decided to convert it to black and white and have to say was very pleased with the result.
