The Mating Game

I visited the Farne Islands slightly earlier this year so there was no frenzied feeding activity going on except the early preparations for what was to come later.

Heroes at Highclere – Kate Adie

A must-do at the Heroes at Highclere event was a visit to the speakers tent where Kate Adie the renowned British broadcaster, author and perhaps most famously the BBC’s veteran war reporter was speaking.   Kate spent about 45 minutes mesmerising the audience about the role of women during World War One.  Although I would have loved to have heard some stories from her time on the war front, her talk provided a  fascinating insight into the women’s role during the war which perhaps is sometimes not recognised.

Heroes at Highclere – Alex Mendham & his Orchestra

One of the highlights at the recent Heroes for Highclere event at Highclere Castle was Alex Mendham and his Orchestra who along with the Dunlop Sisters were the stars of the music tent.  Alex and his orchestra accompanied by the Dunlop Sisters played some fantastic laid back and jazzy music from the 1920’s and 30’s which dreamily took you back to another time.  Very fitting indeed as the event was held to commemorate the end of the First World War and to honour those who serve and those who save in today’s world.
