Red Deer of Richmond Park

Here are further shots of red deer taken during the annual rut at Richmond Park.  Lots of roaring and bellowing was evident however, I did not manage to observe any clashes.

Dunstanburgh Castle, Northumberland

Here are a few shots of Dunstanburgh Castle which  is located on a beautiful stretch of Northumbrian coastline.  The 14th century fortification  was the site of fierce fighting particularly during the war of the roses.  Not surprisingly the castle  is a ruin but nevertheless  a mightily impressive sight.

Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland

Here are a few shots of Bamburgh castle one of Northumberland’s most renowned sights.  Situated on the Northumberland coastline the castle overlooks both the Farne Islands and Lindisfarne and is well worth a visit particularly when the sun is shining.

Warkworth Castle, Northumberland

Here are a few shots of Warkworth Castle, a 12th century medieval ruin located on a hill above the river Coquet in Northumberland.  Once home to the powerful Percy family, who now reside not too far away in Alnwick Castle, Warkworth is one of the largest and most impressive fortresses in North East England.   It was once home to ‘Harry Hotspur’, a valiant and significant knight of the Anglo-Scottish wars of the day.  Unfortunately the castle was not open during our visit so an amble around the exterior was the best we could do.

Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red

Last Saturday I took the opportunity to pay tribute to the poor souls who fought and paid the ultimate sacrifice during the First World War.  Being the penultimate weekend of this moving Tower of London exhibition, it was reportedly one of the busiest yet, with tens of thousands of visitors.  A visit during the afternoon was clearly out owing to the throngs of people, so a quick trip in the evening seemed like a good idea as the sea of poppies appeared to have much more impact under artificial light.  However, I did return the following morning before the crowds returned and managed to get a better overall view.

Common Kingfisher Pt 2

This is the second in my series of Kingfisher shots taken at a hide in Worcestershire.  The shots were taken in low light and heavy rain around 0850hrs hence the reason why some of the images are slightly noisy.

City of London Skyscrapers

Here are a few shots of the old and new skyscrapers that currently grace the skyline of the City of London.  It seems there is no ceiling on the concept of building to greater heights.

The Shard – London

Here are a few shots of the much visited and photographed ‘Shard’, which now dominates London’s skyline.  Also known as the ‘Shard of Glass’ this 87 storey giant was officially opened on 1 Feb 13 and is currently the tallest building in the European Union.
