Here are a few shots of lines and textures from buildings (both old and new) taken recently in London.

Richmond Park – Annual Deer Rut

It would appear that I turned up a little late or the stags were having an off day as there was very little rutting going on, although there was still much roaring.  The following pictures were amongst my favourites from the day particularly the three hinds laying low in the long grass.  They look so relaxed and at peace.  In fact I would probably go as far to say that the shot is one of the best I have ever taken.   It just appeals to me, what do you think?

Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red

Last Saturday I took the opportunity to pay tribute to the poor souls who fought and paid the ultimate sacrifice during the First World War.  Being the penultimate weekend of this moving Tower of London exhibition, it was reportedly one of the busiest yet, with tens of thousands of visitors.  A visit during the afternoon was clearly out owing to the throngs of people, so a quick trip in the evening seemed like a good idea as the sea of poppies appeared to have much more impact under artificial light.  However, I did return the following morning before the crowds returned and managed to get a better overall view.

City of London Skyscrapers

Here are a few shots of the old and new skyscrapers that currently grace the skyline of the City of London.  It seems there is no ceiling on the concept of building to greater heights.

The Shard – London

Here are a few shots of the much visited and photographed ‘Shard’, which now dominates London’s skyline.  Also known as the ‘Shard of Glass’ this 87 storey giant was officially opened on 1 Feb 13 and is currently the tallest building in the European Union.

Leadenhall Market – City of London

Having never really had a stroll around the City of London it was quite a surprise to find this Victorian market sitting amongst the prominent, modern high rise buildings.  The market, which dates back to the 14th century, is surprisingly quiet during the weekends, as like much of the immediate area is closed until the hustle and bustle of business returns on Monday morning.  The very unusual image showing the hanging books is by artist Richard Wentworth and is named the ‘False Ceiling’, which includes 1600 books.  This is a gem of a place and well worth visiting, particularly during the weekend.

St James’s Park – London

Although bang in the centre of urban London, St James’s park certainly has a surprisingly large variety of wildlife. The shots below are only a small sample of what’s on offer.

Fighting Coots

Here are a few shots of coots which were taken recently at St James’s park in London.  To me, they appeared to be having a war dance.
