Sparrowhawk

Here are a few shots of a Sparrowhawk that was soaring alongside a Common Buzzard (see my last post) at Western Turville near Aylesbury.

Common Buzzard

Here are a few shots of a common buzzard taken during a sunny afternoon at Western Turville reservoir near Aylesbury.  They were taken with my Sigma 150-500mm lens, obviously at the extreme end as the buzzard was soaring at high level.  They are not exactly as sharp as I would like but I suppose that is a limitation when trying to capture somewhat elusive wildlife.

Pink Flamingos

Here are a few shots (12 to be exact) of the extremely colourful pink flamingos both at peace and whilst aggressively competing for space.  The photos were taken at ZSL Whipsnade Zoo near Dunstable in Bedfordshire during a recent pleasantly spring-like day.

Common Caterpillar

Here are a few shots of what I understand is a common caterpillar taken with my somewhat underused Tamron 90mm macro lens.   An insect not often seen in my garden, it turned up late one evening so I grabbed the opportunity before it disappeared.

Out and about in Bonnie Dundee

Better late than never, here are a few shots I took before Christmas whilst back home in Dundee.  The locations are Riverside nature reserve and the harbour at Broughty Ferry.  The night shot was taken opposite the Apex hotel.

Redwing

Here are a few shots of a recent visitor to my garden.  The redwing only visited temporarily to take advantage of the numerous berries on the tree, needless to say the berries have long since gone.

Hungry Moorhen

Here are a few shots of a hungry moorhen eating a small fish, taken during a wander on the Aylesbury arm of the Grand Union canal.

Greenfinch

As the title of this post describes here are a few shots of a Greenfinch; a not so common visitor to my garden.

Grey Heron – Into Land

Here are a number of consecutive shots showing a grey heron coming into land in shallow waters at Broughton in Aylesbury.  Although graceful looking when on land, the heron is often described as a scruffy and awkward looking bird, much of which is documented here.
