Motion Blur

Whilst having a spot of lunch in London, I decided to take a long exposure (1/6 sec) shot of London on the move.  It is always useful of course, for added impact, when a couple of tourists pause to look at a map.

Grey Herons in Flight

These shots of grey herons in flight were taken at Haddenham near Aylesbury.  With there vast wings outstretched and long thin neck extended they kind of remind me of something prehistoric.

Here is a shot of a shag feeding an obviously hungry chick.  Taken on the  Staple Islands, Inner Farne, Northumberland.

Red Kites in Flight

Here are a few shots of a red kite in flight taken in Haddenham, Buckinghamshire.  Saved from national extinction, this stunning looking raptor is now very much prevalent in Buckinghamshire.

Bollards!

Yes, bollards indeed! These shots were taken outside St James Palace in London.  If you don’t like bollards then you ain’t lived 🙂

Staple Island Guillemots

The one thing that hits you when you step onto the Staple Islands, apart from the stench and noise and other seabirds, is the vast number of guillemots all closely  huddled together on the surrounding cliffs.  Perhaps this is a tactic employed to deter predators as you have to look very closely to spot their young.  As an adult arrives back from sea with its catch it is initially quite chaotic as they try to find their spot (a needle in a haystack comes to mind).   Regularly patrolled by hungry gulls who are after an easy meal, the loud and unique sounding  roar  of the vast colony as the Gull gets close is magical.
