Black and White

There are occasions when you look at a photograph and for whatever reason it just doesn’t appear right in colour.  Consequently, I converted these shots to black and white, portraying a dark and moody atmosphere which I think adds far more impact.

Cornflowers and Poppies

Now that summer has, by and large, passed us by, here are a few shots of cornflowers intermingled with poppies to remind us that we did in fact have a summer, albeit a brief one.  Taken at London Colney during mid July.

Tawny Owl

I have never seen a Tawny Owl in the wild and unless you are a keen birder I suspect that would be par for the course for most.  On this occasion, I was standing at a farm gate for nearly two hours photographing red kites in flight when I turned to my left for no particular reason, – by so I discovered this Tawny Owl, only 20ft away,  having a good old nosey at me.  After a few minutes snapping away the Tawny obviously got bored and rapidly disappeared up the tree.  Frustratingly, it was quite late in the day and the light was very poor; as you can see my lens struggled to cope so the shots are slightly blurry and not the best, but still worth taking nonetheless!

Shags in Flight

Here are a few shots of a shag in flight taken at the Staple Islands, Inner Farne.  Undoubtedly, one of my favourite shots of the day was the shag coming into land with seaweed in it’s beak.

London Undergound

What to do when travelling on the often tedious and unsociable London Underground?  Take an inordinate amount of shots of basically nothing, perhaps?
