A Punk Highland Coo?

Took this picture of a highland cow (known as coo in Scottish slang) and my mind went immediately back to my punk days in the 70’s.  I have nicknamed him Sid!

Harris Hawk

The following shots of a Harris Hawk were taken at the Raptor World Bird of Prey centre which is located within the Scottish Deer centre near Cupar in Fife.  If you do happen to cross paths with this impressive raptor then it is likely an escapee from captivity as they are normally resident in the USA and South America.  The in-flight shots are of the Hawk attempting to catch its food.

Warkworth Castle, Northumberland

Here are a few shots of Warkworth Castle, a 12th century medieval ruin located on a hill above the river Coquet in Northumberland.  Once home to the powerful Percy family, who now reside not too far away in Alnwick Castle, Warkworth is one of the largest and most impressive fortresses in North East England.   It was once home to ‘Harry Hotspur’, a valiant and significant knight of the Anglo-Scottish wars of the day.  Unfortunately the castle was not open during our visit so an amble around the exterior was the best we could do.

Wild Wolves

Here are a number of shots of the resident pack of wolves at the Scottish Deer Centre in Cupar, Fife.   Heavily persecuted for killing live stock, the last wild wolf in Scotland was killed in 1745 and from that day the number of deer grew out of control.  Nowadays humans have effectively replaced the wolf in culling the deer in order to manage their numbers.

Eurasian Eagle Owl

The following shots of an eagle owl were taken at the Raptor World Bird of Prey centre which is located within the Scottish Deer centre near Cupar in Fife.   Amongst the largest  species of owl in the world the females can grow up to 75cm high and have a wingspan of 188 centimetres.  A very impressive looking bird when seen at close quarters.

Abstract – Milk Collisions

More fascinating shapes caused by the high speed collision of simple milk drops unseen by the human eye.  All done with a little helping hand of food colouring!

Little Egret

Sometimes you take a relatively simple shot without really thinking about it and somehow it works.  This little egret was happily going about his business at Lindisfarne in Northumbria.
