A Puffin Beakful

Here are a few shots of puffins with beakfuls of goodies for their hungry pufflings taken on Staple Island, Inner Farne.  These  puffins were the lucky ones as most returning with beakfuls of sand eels bore the brunt of the much larger and sand eel-thieving gulls. ‘Tis a hard life indeed.

Here are a couple of shots of a ring-necked parakeet taken at Broad Colney Lakes nature reserve in Hertfordshire.  For once it was a pleasure to observe a parakeet feeding in relative silence as they are infamous for being very noisy.

White Faced Scops Owl

Here is a static shot of a white faced scops owl taken at the Raptor Foundation in Cambridgeshire.  A relatively small owl this fascinating looking raptor is native to the southern half of Africa.
