A Puffin Beakful

Here are a few shots of puffins with beakfuls of goodies for their hungry pufflings taken on Staple Island, Inner Farne.  These  puffins were the lucky ones as most returning with beakfuls of sand eels bore the brunt of the much larger and sand eel-thieving gulls. ‘Tis a hard life indeed.

Aliens?

When I look at the razorbill with its black face and narrow white stripes around the eyes and beak, I cannot help thinking they may have migrated from outer space as opposed to somewhere in North America.  These shots were taken at the Farne Islands where thousands of razorbills descend to breed each year and make little aliens.

Great Grey Owl

Here are further shots of Buzz, a great grey owl taken at the Raptor Foundation in Cambridgeshire.  Although owls are relatively strange looking creatures the flat, rounded face of the great grey is really quite unique.
