It would be a disservice to Rome to attempt even a brief history. On a personal level, however, it is a paradise as well as a playground. There is nothing that is not stunning or breathtaking in Rome. Around every corner there seemed to be another marvel, whether it be a building, a bridge or a fountain. La dolce vita is epitomised in a phalanx of mopeds parked up lazily on the periphery of a piazza where sun-shaded Romans seem self-justifiably confident that they are part of this most wonderful of cities.

Another view of a statue through a fountain at St Peters Basillica, this time with a blurred foreground

The Trevi fountain of course!
