In the UK there is only one species of Kingfisher, the common kingfisher, and as stunning as they are, most views are fleeting. In Luangwa, there are eight species of Kingfisher, this one being the woodland kingfisher which is medium sized (7cm taller than our common kingfisher) with electric blue backed plumage and a distinctive bi-coloured bill.

This one is so much more colorful than those I see here in the Northeast U.S.
