Several subspecies of giraffes roam the land, the Thornicroft Giraffe, endemic to Zambia, and found in the South Luangwa National Park is one of these subspecies. Thornicroft Giraffes are social animals and their herds can be as big as 20 members. They can reach top speeds of up to 35km/h if they need to escape from a predator and in Luangwa there is plenty of space for them to roam.
