College lake is a former chalk quarry in Tring, Buckinghamshire, which the Wildlife Trust has fairly recently made a conservation area. Entrance is free although you are requested to make a recommended £3 donation to use the car park which is not obligatory. A two to three mile walk arount its perimeter makes for a great leisurely stroll and gives the opportunity to stop at one of its many hides to observe the wildlife. So, despite disappointing skies and less than ideal photography conditions (and a hangover), this is how I spent my bank holiday Sunday afternoon.
